Dr. G. O. Shodimu bows Out At 60



It was a double celebrations for the former Director and Head of Policy, Planning, Research and Statistics Department of the Lagos State Ministry of Education, Dr. Gabriel Olusegun Shodimu who retired after 34 years of meritorious service and celebrated his 60th birthday on 1st July, 2013 at the popular Lagos State Educational Resource Center (LASERC).

Dr. Shodimu joined the service on 2nd, October 1979 as a Grade III teacher in Holy Saviour College, Isolo. He was later posted to Eletu Odibo High School, Abule Ijesha as an Account teacher after obtaining his Bachelor's Degree in 1983. He was there for seven years before moving to Lagos Mainland Local Education District (LED) in 1990. Since then, he had worked in nearly all the Departments of the Ministry of Education. He rose through the ranks to the highest Grade Level 17 as Director of Education on 1st January, 2011. He was the Head of the Policy, Planning, Research and Statistics Department of the Ministry of Education until his retirement.

Dr. Segun Shodimu is frank, generous, prompt, resourceful, industrious and hardworking. These virtues earned him several commendations during his career in the State. In 2008 for instance, he was awarded Best Senior Personnel Officer in Education District II, Best HOD Award in December 2011, Long Service Award after 32 years of loyal and dedicated service with Lagos State Government in 2011.

As a devoted Christian, Dr. Segun Shodimu was the National Secretary of the Anglican Youth Fellowship (Nigeria) from 2000-2006.

The event was witnessed by the representatives of the Honourable Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Olayinka Oladunjoye and the Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Folushade Omolara Erogbogbo who were away officially. Among other dignitaries at the ceremony were the former TG/PS, Educational District II, Mrs. Bimpe Carena, Directors in the Ministry, Heads of Departments and Units, family members, friends and well- wishers.

We wish our own Doctor a long life full of joy, happiness and sound health. We also wish him a joyful retirement!
