“I am happy to report that the goals of the competition have been achieved through documented evidences of our students’ performances in various external examinations and the fact that many of the past winners of the competition are now successful men and women in their chosen enviable careers such as Medicine, Engineering and Law.

“It is also important to stress that the overall winner in the Secondary Schools category has the singular honour of acting as the Governor of the State for one day.

“Suffice it to say that this peculiar experience has, over the years, continued to propel our students to greater heights as manifested in the keen competition that has been the hallmark of the competition.”

Mrs. Oladunjoye added, “I am pleased to note that there is a strong awareness about The Spelling Bee Competition among students/pupils at all levels in the state.

“This, in itself, is a reflection of the present administration’s commitment towards academic excellence among our children.

Job Opportunities for Nigerian Youths

Nigerian youths, in the absence of white collar jobs may take up one of the following job opportunities to keep body and soul and with dedication, perseverance and a burning passion, who knows? You may become a renowned business man or woman in the nearest future:

Website Design: - Through the internet, the world has become a global village where what happens in Nigeria can be seen or heard almost immediately. If you are well grounded in designing website, why don’t you contact Churches, Mosques, Small and Medium Businesses, Politicians, Corporate Organisation, Friends, Schools etc and help them stage a presence on the internet through an appealing site. You will be amazed at how much you can rake in through this effort.

A good communication skill with a talent to inspire and influence people’s opinion or stand may be all what you need to be a Motivational/ Inspirational Speaker.
People are always willing to part with their hard earned money to acquire knowledge or get information to make them succeed in their chosen endeavour. You too can be an Inspirational Speaker if you learn the act.

Agent Business: Agents are found in different fields of human endeavor such as sports, real estate, transportation etc you can become one if you have the prerequisite knowledge and all it takes to make people patronize and willing to pay you. For instance, football agents scout for players with the hope of finding National or International clubs for them. Real estate agents on the other hand serve as links between home owners and will be tenant. Agents are paid for the service they rendered.

Hat & Bead Making: This is another lucrative business in Nigeria today considering the fact that majority of our female population wear beautiful beads and hats to events such as parties, Church services etc. In fact, beads are also used to make flower vases and other interior decors. Why don’t you come in by learning the rudiments of the business so that sooner or later you too can be a force to reckon with in the business of bead and hat making?

Sale of Phone and Accessories: - Some Nigerian youths obtain their means of livelihood by selling telephones and accessories; it is even a known fact that some are financing their education through this means. Instead of searching for unavailable jobs, you can start this business with a small capital and with zeal and energy, you will definitely grow.

Barbing is a good business for the fact that most Nigerian men barb their hair at least twice a month. Also, it is a trend to see some ladies maintaining low haircut, it seems they are competing with the men.
For me, this is an opportunity for a barber who knows his onions to make more money.
It is also a wake up call to those who have been trained through self efforts, private assistance or by Governments to swing into action without further delay. The challenge in the power sector may be an impediment but you will have to learn how barbers in your area are weathering the storm.

Being bold, humorous and entertaining are qualities that Masters of ceremonies including the “Alagaduro and Alagajoko” possess to take up contracts at Wedding/ Engagements, Birthdays and other corporate events/parties.  Many youths have these talents but because they have their eyes somewhere else, they allow it rust away.
It is not news that the Ali Baba, Basket Mouth, Mr. Tee, Baba Gboin, Ambrose Shomide, Yemi Shodimu etc of this world pocket huge amount of money anchoring events.

Information Officers/ PRO’s on the other hand anchor Government and also corporate and social events. If you need one for your programmes and activities at affordable fees, click here.
So, what are you waiting for? I expect you to throw procrastination into the sea and take action today!

Car Hire Service: - Do you have a personal vehicle? If yes, you can put it to use in a number of ways to generate funds. For instance, people are always on the move, relocating to new apartments or their own homes. You can help them pack by charging a fee.
Kabukabu is a popular transportation business in Nigeria, it is a private transportation service offered to move commuters from one place to another. This can be undertaken by you to generate funds but you must ensure registration with appropriate government agency to avoid unnecessary clash with traffic managers.
Some vehicle owners nowadays sell products in different localities at different times of the day. They do this by parking their cars at strategic locations on busy roads or streets; open the car’s booth to display their products and passerby interested in such products stops and makes a purchase. Products like bread, beverages; CD/DVD’s, snacks, herbal medicine, books, clothing materials etc are sold this way.

Mobile advertising: - Your car can also be used to advertise a company’s products/ services. You need to contact them to know more about how you can benefit from that opportunity.

Do you have a machine for sharpening tools like knives, cutlasses etc? Even if you don’t have one, you can buy one.
In as much as people use these tools on a daily basis for domestic and industrial uses, they are bound to become blunt and thus, there is a need to sharpen them.
One can make extra naira by providing this service and if you give it a good packaging, I am sure you will attract a sizeable number of customers sooner.

Specialty Food:- People love special foods such as barbecue fish, beef and chicken, suya, asun, pepper soup, salad, snacks, fruit juices etc If you are gifted in this area, why not maximize that natural talent to enrich your pockets. Who knows, you may become the next Saheeto or Obalende Suya.

Photography/Video coverage: - Nigerian society values social events and they also like documenting what goes on at such events through photographs and video coverage. If you have a very sound and efficient camera, contact their association in your community and signify your interest. After going through the basics of the business, you can then begin to patronize event venues for opportunities. I have seen guys who are making cool cash from this enterprise. You too can if you so wish.

Laundry Service: - Due to long hours at work, challenges in the power sector, stress or for other reasons, some people may not be able to perform this task on their own, hence the need for a laundry Service. If you have the capability, you can start one but of course you have to put certain things into consideration. For example, availability of water is very crucial to the success of the business. More Important too is the existence of potential customers.
