Updates on Admission into Lagos State Model Colleges

Dear parents, let me use this opportunity to congratulate those of you whose children/wards performed very well in the 2014 Screening Test into Lagos State Junior Model Colleges.

The Merit list has so far being released, you are advised to go to your School of choice or the Education District closer to you to check the name of your child or ward. Click here for the addresses of the Districts.

As you may have known, this examination is not just about passing but passing very well. This is so because admission into any of these schools is based on cut-off points. For instance, a candidate who scored 50% in the exam obviously passed but he/she may not be admitted after all. I know you may want to ask why.
Firstly, there is a minimum score of 65 for candidates seeking admission into these schools.
Secondly, we all know that so many candidates might have chosen a particular school as their first choice for reasons best known to them but because such a school has capacity for a limited number of students which it can adequately cater for in terms of space, infrastructures, feeding, health facilities etc, it then becomes necessary to regulate the number of students admitted so as not to over-stretch the facilities.

The cut-off points are not the same for all the schools, for example, very few of the Colleges have cut-off marks between 80%- 86% while others have between 65%- 80%. The difference is as a result of differences in the number of candidates that chose a particular school and some other important reasons.
It is very important to state here that all the model colleges/upgraded ones are okay for your children/wards. In fact, all of them have boarding facilities except Vetland Grammar school in Ifako/Ijaye.

I therefore advise Parents who condemn schools based on frivolous claims to desist from such because all the schools are given adequate attention by the Government.
In addition, the school fees paid by the students are same across all the schools.

Let me have your feedback, questions or comments.
