The Lagos State Government has said that it was unable to admit the over 10,000 applications for transfer into Public Schools in the State due to the need to put all the requisite materials in place to facilitate teaching and learning.
The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mr. Adesina Odeyemi
made this known on Monday during an interactive session in the conference room
of the Ministry with some parents and students who had come to inquire why their
transfer requests were not approved.
Odeyemi pleaded with the group to bear with the
government’s inability to effect the transfers this academic session as it has embarked on massive renovation,
rehabilitation and construction of classrooms
and new structures that would accommodate more students.
He noted that until all the renovation work are
completed with a view to ensuring the provision of conducive learning
environment, the government would not be able to accommodate more students into
any of its schools.
“As a responsive
and responsible government, the state is making frantic efforts to ensure that
quality education is accessible to all children in the State.”
Speaking earlier, the leader of the group, Mrs. Ramota
Shamsideen praised the state government for her efforts in revitalizing the education sector through massive construction, renovation and rehabilitation as evident in their visits to some schools in the State.
She however expressed the displeasure of her team
that their children are not benefitting from the massive developments in the
States’s education sector. She appealed to the government to give
adequate considerations to students who wish to transfer from private to public
schools in the next academic session.
