All Public and Private Schools in Lagos State will
resume same time- Monday, 13th January, 2014.
This is as a result of
the efforts of the Honourable Commissioner for Education in the State, Mrs.
Olayinka Oladunjoye who sometimes last year (2013) met with stakeholders in the Private education sector where a decision to inaugurate a Standing Committee to
harmonize Schools’ Calendar, Examinations and Curriculum to ensure that the
disparity between Public and Private Schools is reduced to the barest minimum.
The Committee was successfully inaugurated by the Honourable
Commissioner and headed by Dr. Femi Ogunsanya, an Educationist. It has equally
submitted its recommendations.
A cross section of people interviewed which include
parents, teachers, education administrators and students in both public and
private sectors supported the idea of resuming same time. To them, it is a
laudable initiative and they hope that Government will sustain it.
It should be noted that few Private Schools in the
past followed the directive of the Government in this regard but this year, we
are witnessing a total compliance. This is no doubt a confirmation that Private
Schools in the State have redeemed their pledge to support and work with the
Government.
