15 year- old Boy, Boadley Juwon Folarin governed Lagos

His Excellency, Boadley Oluwajuwon Folarin, took over as One- Day Executive Governor of Lagos State on Monday, 22nd, July 2013. He used the opportunity to tour various Government establishments and Corporate Organisations within the State.

The Governor who was accompanied by members of his cabinet expressed delight at the opportunity to become a day Governor of the State saying that he has become more confident. He gave kudos to the State Government for the establishment of Eko project in partnership with the World Bank. He also commended Mr. Babatunde Fashola for his good work, adding that the State has witnessed tremendous transformation in the last few years.

Among the places visited by the Governor are the Government House, Marina, Lagos, Dufil Prima, makers of Indomie Noodles and sponsor of the Spelling Bee competition that produced the one –day Governor.
Boadley also visited the Corporate Headquarters of Etisalat on Banana Island, Lagos before moving to the Ministry of Education where the Permanent Secretary, top officials of the Ministry, TG/PS Education District V, parents and relations of winners in the various categories of the competition were eagerly waiting to receive him and his cabinet members. It was indeed a memorable event.

It might interest you to note that the Lagos State Ministry of Education gave His Excellency, a cash gift of N250. 000 in addition to other beautiful gifts, other winners of the Spelling Bee competition were also given cash gifts and various prizes by the Ministry.

The one day governor also visited the Head of Service (HOS) and Directors in the Public Service Office. The Head of Service, Mr Adesegun Ogunlewe congratulated the Governor and his team, encouraging them to keep the flag flying. They were given various gifts in appreciation for the visit.

The climax of the day’s activities came up at the Lagos State Executive Council Chambers where Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola and the State Executive Council members warmly received the one- day Governor and his cabinet members. At the Chamber, Fashola welcomed and congratulated the one- day governor and his cabinet members for emerging winners in the various categories of the Spelling Bee Competition. He charged them to be hardworking noting that they all had the responsibilities to be good ambassadors of their respective Schools. 

The Governor advised them further, “do your work, put in your best, listen to your teachers, read your books and work hard because that is the only way through which you can excel”. They all left the chamber happily with beautiful gifts from Mr. Raji Fashola. 

It is worthy of note that the one- day Governor will have the opportunity to visit Finland in an exchange programme. Also, all the winners will be given full scholarship by the State Government.

It is true that Boadley Juwon Folarin has acted as a day Governor in Lagos State but it is our prayer at hajikay that God Almighty will turn the day’s event into a future reality and so shall it be for our own children and grand children.

LAGOS APPROVES NEW PROMOTION CRITERIA FOR THE STATE SCHOOLS

Lagos State Ministry of Education has released an approved promotion criteria for the students of public secondary schools in the state taking effect from the 2013/2014 academic year.

According to a circular signed by the Director, Basic Education Services (BES) in the Ministry, Mr. Semasa Bamidele Sutton, the recommendation was agreed upon during a meeting of the Director (BES) with Stakeholders held on Thursday, 6th June, 2013 on 2013/2014 Academic year Calendar and Promotion Criteria.

He disclosed that the approved promotion criteria for the 2013/2014 academic year which takes effect from next academic session are as follows:

JSS.1- JSS.11    - Average pass of 50% including Mathematics and English Language
JSS.11-JSS.111- Average pass of 50% including Mathematics and English Language
JSS.111-SS.1  -   Credit pass in 6 subjects at JSCE including Mathematics and 
                              English Language.
SS.1 - SS.11 -      50% in 6 subjects including Mathematics and English Language
SS.11 – SS.111- 50% in 5 subjects including Mathematics and English Language as well as 50% cumulative pass at the screening test.

The circular further enjoined all public and private schools to vacate on Friday 26th July, 2013 and resume on Monday 23rd September, 2013. It also added that Report Sheets should be issued to all students latest Friday 16th August, 2013.

The Director, Basic Education Services (BES), urged Stakeholders especially the Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS) to adhere strictly to the Academic year calendar viz-a-viz the approved resumption and closing dates of schools as offenders will be penalized.

COMMISSIONER FOR EDUCATION REWARDS BRF QUIZ WINNERS



The commissioner for Education,  Mrs Olayinka Oladunjoye has hosted  all winners of the 2013 BRF Quiz competition recently held at the Blue Roof, LTV Complex,  Agidingbi,  Ikeja, Lagos. The event took place at the Conference Hall of the Ministry of Education on 17th, July, 2013. 

Mrs. Oladunjoye congratulated and thanked the children for performing excellently and asked them to continue to be good ambassadors of the State. In her own words, she said, “We are proud of you, the future is before you, and we are only facilitating the future for you. For selfish reasons, we are going to take care of you today so that tomorrow you will be there for us as well as being useful to yourselves. Thank you very much, congratulations.” 

To show her appreciation, the Commissioner and the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Mrs. Folushade Omolara Erogbogbo donated laptops and Androids to the winners in the various categories.

Mrs Oladunjoye also used the occasion to present Award Plaques donated by Solution Media to 20 Outstanding Teachers from the Six Education Districts across the state who were selected for producing students who were outstanding in various competitions within the year.

She congratulated the teachers, asserting that teaching is indeed a noble profession and that without them, there can be no school. She thanked them for their diligence and hardworking spirit saying that academic performance of the pupils is getting better and encouraged them to do more.

While thanking Solution Media for deeming it fit to intervene, she urged them to do more in the area of assistance because the Government cannot do it all alone.
In the same vein, the Commissioner received International School, Lagos (ISL)winners and representatives of Lagos State in this year’s edition of Nestle/ Milo Secondary Schools Basketball National Championship, who came to present their trophies. Also in that team was Boluwatife Olaniran who was voted the most valuable player in the entire tournament.

Mrs Oladunjoye congratulated them for doing the state proud despite the various challenges earlier faced. She also commended the coach for his discipline, diligence and hardwork.
